Three steps to select a screw air compressor

1. Determine the working pressure
When selecting an rotary screw air compressor, you must first determine the working pressure required by the gas end, add a margin of 1-2 bar, and then select the pressure of the air compressor. Of course, the size of the pipeline diameter and the number of turning points are also factors that affect the pressure loss. The larger the pipeline diameter and the fewer turning points, the smaller the pressure loss; conversely, the greater the pressure loss.

Therefore, when the distance between the air screw compressors and the gas end pipeline is too far, the diameter of the main pipeline should be appropriately enlarged. If the environmental conditions meet the installation requirements of the air compressor and the working conditions allow, it can be installed near the gas end.
2. Determine the corresponding volumetric flow rate

(1) When selecting a screw air compressor you should first understand the volumetric flow rate of all gas-using equipment and multiply the total flow rate by 1.2;

(2) Ask the gas-using equipment supplier about the volumetric flow rate parameters of the gas-using equipment to select an air compress machine;
(3) When renovating an air screw compressor station, you can refer to the original parameter values and combine them with the actual gas usage to select an air compressor.
3. Determine the power supply capacity
When the speed changes while the power remains unchanged, the volumetric flow rate and working pressure will also change accordingly. When the speed decreases, the exhaust will also decrease accordingly, and so on.
The power of the air compressor selection is to meet the working pressure and volumetric flow, and the power supply capacity can meet the power of the matching drive motor.

Four points to note when selecting a screw air compressor
1. Consider the exhaust pressure and exhaust volume
According to the national standard, the exhaust pressure of a general-purpose screw air compressor is 0.7MPa (7 atmospheres), and the old standard is 0.8MPa (8 atmospheres). Because the design working pressure of pneumatic tools and wind power machinery is 0.4Mpa, the working pressure of the screw air compressor  can fully meet the requirements. If the compressor used by the user is greater than 0.8MPa, it is generally specially made, and forced pressurization cannot be adopted to avoid accidents.

The size of the exhaust volume is also one of the main parameters of the air compressor. The air volume of the air compressor should match the exhaust volume required by oneself, and leave a 10% margin. If the gas consumption is large and the air compressor exhaust volume is small, once the pneumatic tool is turned on, the exhaust pressure of the air compressor will be greatly reduced, and the pneumatic tool cannot be driven. Of course, blindly pursuing a large exhaust volume is also wrong, because the larger the exhaust volume, the larger the motor equipped with the compressor, which is not only expensive, but also wastes purchase funds, and also wastes electricity energy when used.
In addition, when selecting the exhaust volume, peak usage, normal usage, and trough usage must also be considered. The usual method is to connect air compressors with smaller displacement in parallel to obtain a larger displacement. As the gas consumption increases, they are turned on one by one. This is not only good for the power grid, but also saves energy (start as many as you need), and has backup machines, so that the entire line will not be shut down due to the failure of one machine.
2. Consider the occasions and conditions of gas use
The occasions and environment of gas use are also important factors in choosing the type of compressor. If the gas use site is small, a vertical type should be selected. For example, for ships and cars; if the gas use site is changed over a long distance (more than 500 meters), a mobile type should be considered; if the use site cannot be powered, a diesel engine drive type should be selected;
If there is no tap water in the use site, an air-cooled type must be selected. In terms of air cooling and water cooling, users often have the illusion that water cooling is better and that the cooling is sufficient, but this is not the case. Among small compressors, both at home and abroad, air cooling accounts for more than 90%.
In terms of design, air cooling is simple and does not require a water source when used. Water-cooling has its fatal disadvantages. First, it must have a complete water supply and drainage system, which requires a large investment. Second, the water-cooled cooler has a short life. Third, it is easy to freeze the cylinder in the winter in the north. Fourth, a large amount of water will be wasted during normal operation.
3. Consider the quality of compressed air
Generally, the compressed air generated by air compressors contains a certain amount of lubricating oil and a certain amount of water. In some occasions, oil and water are prohibited. At this time, not only should you pay attention to the selection of the compressor, but you should also add auxiliary devices if necessary.
4. Consider the safety of operation
The air compressor is a machine that works under pressure. When working, it is accompanied by temperature rise and pressure. The safety of its operation should be given priority. In addition to the safety valve, the air compressor is also equipped with a pressure regulator when designing, and the double insurance of overpressure unloading is implemented. It is unreasonable to have only a safety valve but no pressure regulator. It will not only affect the safety factor of the machine, but also reduce the economic efficiency of operation (the general function of the pressure regulator is to close the suction valve and make the machine run idly).
